I'm playing FtB Monster 1.0.10 w Gregtech added... In hardcore mode. Loving it! But I have come across two slight issues. First off, every time I mine any mimichite ore, it turns into mimichite gems. Which I can't seem to find a use for. Is that because Gregtech essentially "disables" that mod, or am I just missing something? And second, getting chrome seems to be REALLY fucking hard to do. Am I missing something, or is that the idea?

Mimichite Gems and Chrome Ingots

It's 'REALLY fucking hard to do' a lot of things with GregTech.
I haven't quite reached that stage in a 1.6 version, but if it's the same as the 1.5 versions, then you get it from ruby, yellow garnet and/or redstone.
Try getting a quarry in the nether. You'll get a lot of netherrack which you can get redstone from (according to the wiki: 1440 netherrack = 1 chrome) and hopefully some yellow garnet and nether redstone ore. And possibly some nether ruby ore as well!
In the 1.5 packs I got a whole bunch of redstone and centrifuged it and got quite a bit of chrome. If that recipe's gone, well, you'll have to do the other options.
