SO. ive finally gotten around to installing MFR, and i have a rubber tree farm, and working on a tree farm and seeds and pumpkins and melons and mobs yet, but how do i harvest all of those? i use planters to plant them, and harvesters to harvest them, but do i use the harvester on seeds too? melons, pumpkins?

Harvesters harvest surplus seeds along with the plants being harvested, just like breaking them by hand would do. Just use a diamond (and lapis) pipe to feed the seeds back into the respective planter, or any other way of automation, like AE for example. MFR farming is imho pretty easy as you just have to know those 2 blocks: harvester/planter (or the fruit picker for some rare purposes). Don't overthink it
.
As for the turtles: I think its pretty complicated to write a lumberjack turtle as you would have to implement some basic pathfinding algorithms for cutting the branches of the tree, if you dont want to travel through all of the possible space the tree could occupy. That is if you use trees that can have big branches, perhaps its more feasible to use (small) branchless trees with a 1x1 trunk for that.
Imo another issue with turtles in a treefarm would be to detect if a tree has grown, as you would have to spend energy just for moving the turtle around to check that.

I have a roundrobin extraction pipe taking fertilized out to put in fertilizers and the harvester is piped out with stone, and sorted with a diamond pipe(expensive) the seeds go back in the planter, while the items are into my AE system. I ave a LOT of wheat, now.
But id still like a melon farm, with pumpkins. will the planter do those, too?

I would just plant the pumpkins/melons manually, since the stalks should never need re-planting. The Harvester should be smart about taking the block and not the stem.

I know SethBling did make an automatic Fir Tree harvester/planter with a single Turtle.
Its infinitely harder than anything else but more customizable imo
edit: doing it by hand, manually, (WHO DOES STUFF ANYMORE?), is probably slower.
edit2: The melons are successful. I like melons cause you never lose hunger, one point per melon.

e. g. if you have 19 of 20 hunger points and eat a steak, you still only get one hunger point and the other five or so are wasted.
I though there was some strange concept like "satiation" or so?
I know SethBling did make an automatic Fir Tree harvester/planter with a single Turtle.
Damn, now even SethBling owns my turtle skills? ^^ Anyways, was it a "single tree tree farm"? I think that would be pretty feasible, probably with fertilizer usage.

They ain't wasted. It's actually better to eat a steak when you're near full, I think. Hannoman got it; saturation.e. g. if you have 19 of 20 hunger points and eat a steak, you still only get one hunger point and the other five or so are wasted.
How do you not know stuff? xD

That's not actually how it works. Each food has a restore amount and a saturation amount. Steak does have a good saturation value, but there's no difference to your saturation if you eat the steak when you're nearly full or nearly starving. Steak's restore value is 8, so unless you eat it when you have 4 empty haunches, you are missing out on some of that, and it's lost (not converted to saturation).

According to this article here you are actually a bit better off if you eat while your hunger meter is not very empty, because apparently the maximum saturation level depends on the current hunger bar level. That still doesn't mean that it doesn't matter how full your hunger bar is, because each food has separate hunger and saturation yields.
For instance, golden and cooked food yields the most saturation and are thus still fairly effective when eaten at full hunger meter. However raw meat or fruit, despite only yielding two or three hunger points less than some cooked ones, have significantly lower saturation values, and are thus still fully efficient at low hunger levels.
Food science!

I eat 2 berry medley whenever I start getting hungry, because of the great saturation I don't have to eat frequently at all.

Quantum helmet feeds you cans. Powersuit addons also has an auto feeder that'll feed you anything in your inventory :3
