so, it turns out you need a ton of tomatoes and other plants from harvestcraft.  I've ran them through the harvester / planter combo and tried it that way, but it's too slow for me, so I set up a barrel of bonemeal that feeds (via hopper) into an autonomous activator placed above a tomato plant. When it harvests the tomatoes, it slots them into it's inventory.  To keep the hopper from filling the inventory completely with bonemeal, I dropped a tomato in every other slot and let them stack up.  The problem i'm having is that I can't keep itemducts / AE from pulling them out faster than they are going in.  I set an itemduct on the output, set it to operate on high signal, pull out only tomatoes, and pull only 1 item (with a pneumatic servo) each time.  I then set a redstone clock (extra utilities) to hav it pulse every few seconds.  It still goes a bit faster than the tomatoes are going in.  I'm sure there's a vanilla redstone circuit that I could set up to time it perfectly, but damnit, this is modded minecraft, is there any other way that you guys can think of to set up a really slow pulse (about 1 every 3-5 seconds or so) or some kind of device that will pull items out of the autonomous activator while leaving one tomato in each slot?  the second option would be ideal, so I could leave it running while chunk-loaded, but i'll take anything at this point (I really miss the router from factorization or the timer from redpower)  I also thought of using the rednet controller / cable from extra utilities, but I'm not sure exactly how to make that work, i've only ever used it for door security (this lever + this lever while standing on this pressure plate, for example) and to automate a smeltery.

any help is appreciated

^ My current setup, the idea was to have 9 autonomous activators running over a 3x3 patch with itemducts pulling from the barrel into the AA's for bonemeal, once I have the plants I need for the "hell's kitchen" questline, i'd feed the products into a crafting system to turn them back to seeds and then into a bioreactor (or 8) for biofuel & ethanol as my main power source.

Transfer Nodes would be ideal here, but they're disabled in Agrarian Skies (probably because they can produce cobble much faster than Igneous Extruders). Personally, I would let the Autonomous Activator fill with bone meal, assuming that the tomatoes would then fall on the ground when harvested. A simple Vacuum Hopper could then pick up the tomatoes and insert them into the barrel.

Yeah, tried that too, it was actually my first design, but they don't fall to the ground, they just don't get collected.

Okay, I've worked the problem a bit. Rather than using a hopper to insert bone meal into the Autonomous Activator, I placed an ME Interface there with a pattern encoded for '2 Bone Meal -> 1 Lettuce' (since I'm working on the lettuce quest anyway; you probably want '1 Bone Meal -> 1 Tomato'). The Interface was then set to export lettuce, with crafting mode set to 'craft'. Finally, lettuce is imported from the activator into the AE system (so that the crafting operation registers as completed), where it is automatically moved into the inventory of the interface, from where it can be pumped out into a barrel/chest/QDS. It's been running now for a half hour, so it appears stable (for lettuce, anyway). As long as you don't try to store the finished crops in the AE system, you should be fine.

I just solved this for myself by using two autonomous activators.  One has bonemeal in it and is set to right click constantly to meal the tomatoes.  The other, on the opposite side of the piece of dirt the tomato plant is on, has an empty inventory and is set to constantly right-click to prune the plant.  Its inventory empties out into my AE network.  This works because as soon as the bone-mealing activator makes the plant mature, before it right-clicks again, the empty activator will get in there first and prune the plant.

I ended up making a row of this pattern to get my tomato production up to scratch.  Wrapping 4 activators around the block didn't increase the speed noticeably, as then you have the mealing activators pruning the tomatoes sometimes and wasting them.
