So, is the Crucible just useless now or what?

I've been trying to use alchemy in Thaumcraft 4 and the changes to the Crucible make it pretty much worthless. Essentia starts to decay WAY too fast, often in less than a second!!! It's not even like I'm running back and forth to get materials - I get everything in my hotbar and ready to dump but by the time I've dropped it all in it's already decayed and I can't make any of the stuff I had intended to make.

Worse, now I'm left with a crucible full of crap that I can't use which is slowly dumping some purple stuff all over my floor. I can't even dump my crucible out because the "right click with a wand to dump" mechanic DOESN'T WORK.

The only way I could empty my crucible was to just break it with a pick. I STILL can't get rid of this purple stuff and it fell into the hole below my crucible and is preventing me from re-lighting the netherrack there.
