"Dark" Door?

Best Answer timrem , 12 March 2013 - 12:28 AM

If the server has Thaumcraft, you could simply make a solid wall and use a Portable Hole to get through when you need to.

Vanilla doors are nice. They provide a means of getting in and out of an area easily, while keeping most things in and out. One of these things happens to be light, which can cause problems in spawners and such.

So, my question is, is there anything that has been added by FTB that works like as a door, but also keeps light out? I would just use a piston door, but since those take up space, I can't use it. It also has to be able to be opened by other players, since it's for a server.

Thanks,

It's not that I don't want to see through it, but that if I place a torch on one side of it, the other side would still be lit. Changing the texture won't change that.

Because of the windows, the door is treated as a transparent block. So light is let through it. Which means there is no "dark door". Though if it's for spawners, decent tiered soul cages ignore light levels. If you have a jetpack too, you can make the entrance the ceiling so the light won't interfere. It's what I do on the vanilla spawners for maintenance.

Eh, neither of those things will really work. Like I said, it's a vanilla-style spawner. As such, I'm not using cages, so i need it as dark as possible. And due to the way the spawn pads are shaped, I have to make the entrance in the side, so the jetpack thing won't work either.

If all else fails, I can just skip the doors altogether. They are only really for maintenance anyway. Thanks for the info, though.

Also, you could use frames and frame motors for a different kind of piston door that might fit your needs and space better.

Or you could use Portals.

That's a great idea. I completely forgot about that item.

Only momentarily, so it doesn't really matter.

No, portals from portal guns glow. They give off some light. Test it.

Nvm, I was thinking about using a portal spawner with a timer-circuit but that is not as easily done as using a portable hole :P

portals give off light.

The portals could be placed a few blocks away.

I found an easy way to solve this problem. Use reappearing blocks from dark towers in the Twilight Forest mod. They dissapear with a right click and dint let light through.

I just make an entry room of slabs in front of my spawner, and leave that room dark. Nothing spawns in there and it prevents the light from reaching the spawner.
