I just wanted to know what would the best way to auto-mine a large area quickly. Or is the quarry the best thing that I can do?

BuildCraft quarries are indeed the best you can get in terms of speed. ComputerCraft turtles are not as fast, but useful for digging anything that is not a rectangle. If you only want the resources, you can also use an ender quarry, which fills the dug out area back up with free dirt.

You could attempt to one of these:

For pure mining speed, there are some complex Ars Magica spells that you can write that can get a 7x7 area to bedrock in about a minute.
This should do it, if I'm remembering correctly:

There are other variants, too. You'll want to be careful though, since this drops all the items on the ground and that can result in major lag if you don't pick stuff up. You have to cast in Augmented mode to get the 7x7 area and the bedrock depth.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm gonna have to try the Ars Magica one that doesn't sound too bad. But I'll just stick with my quarries for a little bit.
