Hello, so today I decided to play some FTB Direwolf20 1.6.4 pack. So I booted it up and it gets to the Mojang screen and crashes. No error log or anything, it just says that it isn't responding and crashes. I have tried many fixes and have browsed a lot for answers and have come up with nothing other than people with the same problem and no answer.

Here is what I've tried so far:

  • Re-install the pack
  • Re-install the launcher
  • Delete everything associated with FTB and start fresh
  • Re-install java (32-bit and 64-bit)
  • Removed older versions of Java and deleted Java 8 so I only had the newest version of Java 7
  • Force Update the pack
  • Delete the pack itself and re-install

So on top of all of this, Minecraft vanilla works fine. So I don't know what's wrong. Please help soon, I've been wanting to get back on FTB.

Go to "[FTB Install Folder]\Direwolf20_1_6_4\minecraft". If there's nothing from today in the "crash-reports" folder, then the info in "ForgeModLoader-client-0.log" should reveal the problem. Post it here inside spoiler tags if you want help deciphering it.

Ok so there is actually no crashreports folder. And I tried to paste the ForgeModLoader-client-0.log and it said the post was too long, I also tried putting it on paste bin and it said it was still too long, so here's a mediafire link to it :/

Yeah I used to be able to play it, then I got my new machine and I haven't been able to play... Like I said earlier, I've found others with this problem and they never got an answer either.

But you haven't ever been able to play it on your new computer?

How much memory have you allocated it?

I've given it 2.5 GB and I used to be able to play it on this machine, just that was a while ago. If you need system specs I'll be happy to give them

Sorry for taking so long, but I really have no clue. :/

Does the log file always stop at the same place?

Maybe try upping your RAM allocation just a tiny bit just to see if that does anything?

Maybe try disabling every single mod, and if it still crashes we'll know that it has nothing to do with the mods. If it doesn't crash and if you're really patient, maybe try disabling every mod one by one to see which is causing the problem.

Sorry again. :P

Ok so I gave it 3GB of RAM and tried going through every mod. Nothing. I tried disabling all mods and when I click 'launch' the button greys out then goes back to normal like I never pressed it.

So does the log stop at the same place every time? (Is the log the same as last time?)

So I'm guessing, re-reading your OP, that maybe it's that you're giving it too much RAM, because Java is apparently a pretty bad language. Just be glad you're not getting BSoDs.

Make sure, before you open up FTB, that the amount of memory you're using is less than (<total memory on computer> - <total memory allocated to FTB>). If your browser is open (especially if it's Chrome), you may want to close it. I've heard that Java often wants to use more memory than actually exists, and so crashes itself.

Hope that worked :P

Ok so I dropped down the RAM, and now whenever I click "Launch" on any pack, it sits at the launcher for a min or so, then closes. It's not running in the background, and the Mojang window never opens either.

Honestly I think it's something with the pack itself because it takes a seemingly random amount of times to get it to launch on my computer. The only error that appears is the 'Java not responding', it only happens with direwolf 1.6, that is the reason I think it's the pack.
If you need help with RotaryCraft and ReactorCraft, don't hesitate to contact me for an answer or point you in the right direction.

Alright. Let me just say, Minecraft, let alone FTB, is a RAM hog.
(System specs would be nice, I guess.)

As it's probably the actual pack, as you and Daoev have suggested, have you tried playing other packs?
Have you uninstalled any 32-bit versions of Java?

Thanks and sorry for having to wait so long to find the solution.

System Specs:

NVidia GTX 760

4GB RAM

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @ 2.83GHz

64-Bit Windows 8.1

Tell me if I missed anything

Ok so I verified I had the newest Java 32 and 64 bit installed (which I did) and tried running the pack, the launcher just sat there for 3 minutes after I pressed the button then disappeared, it's not showing up in the task manager either.

As I said, uninstall Java 32-bit.

And have you been able to play other packs?
