A seemingly dumb question, but remember...Greg Tech.

Redstone drops as an ore when mined and probably needs a macerator/pulverizer/lacerator to get the dust, but can't craft those machines without first having the RS Dust. NEI recipes show smelting the ore to get the dust, but that doesn't work in either the vanilla furnace or the slag furnace from Factorization.

The GT Hammer (4986:12) text (on NEI mouseover) says "Crushes Ores instead of harvesting them", but that isn't the case. It drops ore blocks.

Is this a bug? or is GT going to make this modpack grind to a halt. Cannot really make any tech machines without redstone dust for basic items like circuits and pistons.

I gotta be missing something. Please chime in.

Thanks,

SeaWing

You might need to place the hammer above the ore in a crafting grid. There are also mortars, which are used to dustify some materials in the crafting grid, those might also be what you need.

Took me a while but I figured it out.Just place the Redstone ore somewhere and destroy it with the hammer, then take the crushed Redstone and put it in the crafting table with the hammer to get impure dust.Put the impure dust in a cauldron with water in it so you get the clean dust.Hope this helps.

Yes, MhmdAL, that was the solution. Thanks. I think there was an update because most of the Redstone I mined was with the Hammer and it dropped ore blocks. Now, I can place the blocks and get impure dust by using the hammer. The vanilla cauldron converts three impure dust into three redstone dust per bucket of water.

Thanks to both of you for chiming in. Live long and mine.

The Pulverizer did the trick for me, 1 redstone ore gives 6 redstone dust, And with sand in a induction melter gives a redstone block! :)

Thermal expansion...

The OP's problem (a month ago) was that they needed some Redstone Dust just to build the Pulverizer. Sure it'll work once you have it, but they needed some means to get the dust before they had a Pulverizer

Yeah i figured after i had posted it... sorry i wasn't thinking :)

Also, there is rare small (redstone) ores wich may drop dirty dust you might find, that is how i got my first few redstone dust.
