I can't help but notice the array of redlinks the Ex Nihilo navbox has and considered making articles for them all but... they all would have been exactly the same pretty much?

...should we just have an article on all Broken Ore instead of each individual Broken Ores and the same for Crushed Ore, Pulverized Ore, Ore Dust, Ore Sand, and Ore Gravel?

This is similar to the GregTech item/material variant problem. I'm up for creating articles like "Broken Ore" that cover all variations in a general way.

I am "the more - the better" person, so I'd create a page for each ore.

Well I was thinking we could just make redirects that lead directly to the info about say Iron Broken Ore listed on the Broken Ore page?

Is there even much to say about Ex Nihilo's ore multiplication stages? It's basically "smash with hammer, craft new block, repeat until dust". There should definitely be a main page covering Ex Nihilo ore processing, which links to the different stages' individual pages. Having separate pages for each stage's different minerals would just lead to a lot of copy-pasted boilerplate text.

We currently have separate pages for each stage's different minerals for each type of stage.

Just have each type of stage shortens it down.

We also, I'm pretty sure, have pages for Aluminium Block and Chromium Block and Silver Block et al.

Those have a real use though or at the very least can be used for something while the most you can do with iron ore dust (besides smelting) is put in a picture frame...?

Those can be used for BUILDING! or for DECORATIONS!

No, iron ore dust can be used for neither of those things.

-_-

I was saying that the blocks I mentioned could only be used for BUILDING! and DECORATIONS! and not anything else. I know that iron ore dust has fewer uses, but still -- those basically useless blocks still have their own discrete pages.

But... I was saying that those two extra uses are why they have a need for their own articles?

Why not?

EDIT:
An osmium ore block is something anyone could be interested in learning more about be it the color, texture, or use while a broken copper ore is not really something that most people would have too much interest in, all broken ore are the same and don't do additional things.

Why not?

Each of those pages was very short, and very very formulaic. "X is a block from mod Y. It is compact storage and decorative, but otherwise useless." A couple recipes which are no more than "9 ingots -> block" and "block -> 9 ingots", plus the infobox and navbox, and that's it. Compared to a dust article, the fact that blocks have "those two extra uses" adds a trivial line of text, nothing more. And it holds true for all such blocks, so a combined Ingot Blocks page would only have to list it once, not for every block individually.

So it seems the general consensus is that every item everywhere needs an article, kay!

Whadaheck was that good for?

So it seems the general consensus is that every item everywhere needs an article, kay!

:/

My point was that

Having separate pages for each stage's different minerals would just lead to a lot of copy-pasted boilerplate text.

Which is what happened.

As I understand it, timrem and you [fel] were also saying that separate pages are unnecessary.

ZL was referencing the fact that we have articles for material blocks and implied that we should thus also have separate articles for the broken ore stuff.

That's one clearly against, two against as far as I can tell, and one sarcastically-neutral-or-perhaps-in-favor. That's not what I'd call "the general consensus".

Oh, I misunderstood then, it sounded like to me that I was the only one saying that separate pages that say the same thing were unnecessary...

I'm kind of against.

Actually I wasn't really comfortable with the whole page-for-each-metal-block thing but I guessed that since those were there then we should follow the same style and either get rid of those pages or make separate pages for each of these weird broken ore things as well.

True this would cause a major change for the wiki... maybe we SHOULD stick to one item per article?
