So I was editing some Tinkers' Construct articles when it dawned on me. For mods where we have many components out of different materials, we have the issue that they overflow the navboxes and such. But making generalized pages for these items doesn't always work all that well, as some do have specific uses. So I've come up with a solution I nthink works pretty well.

For TiC I'm currently making articles for the many available Tool Rod items:

http://ftbwiki.org/Wooden_Tool_Rod

http://ftbwiki.org/Stone_Tool_Rod

http://ftbwiki.org/Iron_Tool_Rod

I think they do need their own articles as they each have different properties and some are used in specific crafting recipes.

But rather than listing these in the TiC navbox, I have added them all to the category Tool Rod. Then I've made the page http://ftbwiki.org/Tool_Rod which I did add to the TiC navbox. This page gives a (short) description of what a Tool Rod and has an SMW query listing all specific tool rods below.

I figured this would be a great solution to the issue with all of the GregTech gears, dusts, rods, and so on...

On a note, another reason why I think these all need their own page, is ore dictionary support. With more pages that have the oredict param in the Infobox, we can integrate the ore dictionary into the wiki a lot better.

Hm, how about changing the link name to "Tool Rods" instead? (Page can keep its name.) Will be clear that it is about various rods.

But I like Tool Rod :o

I do think that maybe we should use SMW to list to properties of each material, as they are all defined on the TiC Materials page. Will make updating the data a lot easier.

Hm, to be honest I'd prefer a single Tool Rod page. Off the top of my head I don't remember any recipes which directly use a specific type of tool rod, but there probably are some. The rods' properties would be much cleaner as a single table listing all rods, rather than each rod having its own page. That would also allow easy sorting and comparing of the different stats. Ore dict support is something that (I think) can only be done by actually creating the pages though...

We can still have that table on the Tool Rod page. Using SMW we can probably limit the info duplication to a minimum. But there are in fact key differences between some of the rods. The Stone Tool Rod for example has crafting table recipes and can be used to create the Spool of Wire from Mechworks. Some of the rods use the Smeltery, some don't. Some have a Shard as secondary output in the Part Builder, other have a vanilla item.

This way, the pages are there if needed, but they're sort of semi-hidden as they aren't listed in any nav.

EDIT: Well, in any case, that'll be for after my finals, ahevt o brush up on Lua and SMW first.

Hmm, messing around witht his, I'm assuming I have this backwards... Rather than putting all of the data on 1 page, I can only have SMW gather the material properties by giving each material it's own page where I define its properties?
