So I've made pages for each of the Tool Rods in TiC: http://ftbwiki.org/Tool_Rod

At least the default ones, the ones from Thaumcraft, MFR and Thermal Foundation.

I intend to do this for each of the components. This is a lot of work, but still somewhat doable. Obfiously all of the permutations of tools you can create is not feasible. What I've been thinking is to create a single page for each tool, and then use SMW to link all of the individual tool components into the SMW recipe system, so they will show the TiC tools in their Usages section.

Everyone good with that?

It's an open wiki, add anything you want yourself as long as it is relevant \o/

This Usage category is wrong, there are recipes that this is used for, we should remove this usage template unless we make general articles for every TiC tool.

The Usage listing is correct, there are currently no recipes on the wiki that use this item. That's what this topic is about. If you read the first post, I'm saying I'm going to be making general articles for all tools and have the system link all of the components to them so the Usage sections are populated. Usage should be on every item and block page. Even if there aren't any recipes now, it's likely that recipes will be added later. Manually listing usages is a thing of the past, it takes up valuable time better spent writing more articles :P

I... I am guessing you are unfamiliar with the TiC mod?

Making an article for every single possible combination for each individual piece would take a lot of time and space.

RZR0 plans to have a general 'Mattock' page, and a general 'Excavator' page, etc, and will use SMW magic to list 'Mattock' under 'usage' for every material's version of Tool Rod, Axe Head, and Shovel Head. So once everything's in place, the Usage section of Cactus Tool Rod will be something like:

  • Pickaxe (Tinkers' Construct)
  • Shovel (Tinkers' Construct)
  • Mattock
  • Cutlass
  • Rapier
  • ...

But that was what I said?

You said that earlier, yes. But then you said

Making an article for every single possible combination for each individual piece would take a lot of time and space.

which isn't something anyone anywhere suggested doing.

I said that in response to Zero possibly disagreeing with me saying the general articles.

Some lua code, several templates and some headaches later. SMW magic complete. You'll notice I added a general pickaxe article. And every Tool Rod, Tool Binding and Pickaxe Head is now dynamically added as a recipe item to it. As a result, any of those specific articles will now list that pickaxe page in it's Usage section.

What will you do for the GUI of the Cutlass article?

I don't know, I don't even know how that's made. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

It doesn't really have its own GUI like anything else does, it is an Easter Egg.

As with any TiC item, as long as you arrange it correctly in any pattern it is still craftable.

I think it is the same pattern as the sword but with a different blade so most people use the sword GUI for it.
