I was thinking, maybe we should set up a style guide page for terminology, to increase consistency across the wiki?
Things such as right-clicking vs. using. These would have to be discussed in advance of course.

Yes I agree, I'm a stickler for consistency in terminology...
Start with Backpacks: type = Inventory or Storage? I've seen both...

I generally try to use nothing but "Block", "Item" and "Fluid" for type, though I'm tempted to just use "Block" for fluid.
Oh oh, I've followed suit of others before me and used type such as Armor, Machine, ect... Mea Culpa, - Adds a bit more harmless variety to describe all this mod stuff... - Perhaps used as an additional describer: "an Armor Item" or "a Machine Block" ? (I've done that too - Despicable Me) - how about Items that may be placed and also interacted in hand? Item? Block? or both "Item/ Block"? (example: Backpack (BetterStorage)

Minecraft Wiki has a template for keybindings, maybe we should import that. (Left- and right-click are just normal keybindings. If you want to, you can set them to keys instead of mouse buttons.)

Item Storage? (As opposed to RF Storage, Fluid Storage, etc.)

If there's no good type for an item, just leave it out entirely, the infobox template will use a default automatically. I would say that fluids are different from blocks - sure, they can exist in the world, but you can't mine, place or store them like normal blocks.

Sounds like a good idea to me - more work for you though...
Item Storage? (As opposed to RF Storage, Fluid Storage, etc.)
Do you mean as type? or as RZR0 suggest stick to Item and Block for type, then elaborate in the description

Fluids may be placed using a bucket... but I agree different physics entirely - so "Type = Fluid" - "Type = Fluid Block" or "Type = Block"? (then in the description: "<Fluid Name> is a Fluid Block..." (for example)

Sounds good, I actually was actually in favor of using the term "using" over the keybind

Mining with buckets like a boss
I agree that to write 'Use' or 'Place' for "R-click" - 'Attack' for "L-click" and 'Sneak' for "L-Shift" or "Shift+" is most likely the best way to go - although most Players probably use the default - and R-click or L-click and Shift+click is also a standard as well...
Also have to consider that It can get awkward sometimes as in: "Using a Wrench, 'Attack' to adjust, 'Use' to remove..." but it also makes sense... do I make sense?
So I vote to use the name of the 'action' as opposed to the 'key binding' - (I do have to admit that I've used both... but that initially my instinct was that it would be better to use the action term)
Also need to consider variations of: 'Use'; 'Use key'; 'Use key-binding'; 'Using'; etc.
I've only seen Storage really and due to always seeing that am an advocate of using that.Yes I agree, I'm a stickler for consistency in terminology...

Woah, that is more strict than I would have imagined, that kind of almost makes it entirely useless and something that I would suggest removing entirely if it will be as vague as that.I generally try to use nothing but "Block", "Item" and "Fluid" for type, though I'm tempted to just use "Block" for fluid.
I would request that we expand R-click to right click.I agree that to write 'Use' or 'Place' for "R-click" - 'Attack' for "L-click" and 'Sneak' for "L-Shift" or "Shift+" is most likely the best way to go - although most Players probably use the default - and R-click or L-click and Shift+click is also a standard as well...

I typed R-click here only as a short; in the Wiki I've used 'Right-click' - but then isn't the point of this discussion to not use the name of the key [bind] but the actual action?
Attack and use are an interesting change choice.I typed R-click here only as a short; in the Wiki I've used 'Right-click' - but then isn't the point of this discussion to not use the name of the key [bind] but the actual action?
The actual Minecraft (1.6.4) terminology:
As OstPavel mentioned some players may use a different key binding so Right-click isn't always accurate... and for South Paws (left handed person) it would be in reverse...
Wasn't he right handed in that movie?for South Paws (left handed person)
I can Imagine that going through every page to fix all mention of clicking, and changing type to Block and Item would be quite the endeavour, but if we normalise it as we come across it daily, little by little it will become standard... (as far as Witchery goes, I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole...)
I stand by my statement that if we standardize the Type the being as general as that that we might as well not have it listed and just remove it entirely.I can Imagine that going through every page to fix all mention of clicking, and changing type to Block and Item would be quite the endeavour, but if we normalise it as we come across it daily, little by little it will become standard...

LoL My point excatly!
But seriously that would be:
'Attack': a Player...
'Use': on a Player...
'Use' on the ground: ...
'Use' on the side of a Block: ...
Hold down 'Use' or 'Use' and hold: to ...
Hold 'Use' while 'Sneaking': pulls...
'Use' on metal Ore...
Further more, other combo:
'Sneak Attack' or 'Attack' while 'Sneaking'
'Sneak Use' or 'Use' while 'Sneaking'
'Sneak' and 'Scroll'
Did I leave any out?
Exactly, I had a tough time figuring out how to word those...LoL My point excatly!

@ everyone obsessing over right-click vs. use, what do you think of how MCWiki does it? http://minecraft.gam...com/Sword#Usage
They write it as if talking about a key on the keyboard, just instead of "block attacks by pressing B" (random example) you say "block attacks by pressing use". You can also hover above the "use" part and see that the default key binding is the right mouse button. Personally I'd prefer that to be always visible, for example "block attacks by pressing use (Default: Right Mouse Button)", it would make the meaning of "use" more clear. Also, touchscreens.

Sounds cool.
About the Type issue, what if we were to add a Subtype?
{{Infobox/Item |mod = ic2x |type = Item |subtype = Resource |stack = 64 }}
@dgelessus - we're not obsessing LoL - You mentioned this from MCWiki before and I'm all for it. But I feel that adding (Default: Right Mouse Button) clutters the text some, also most players know what it is (very basic stuff)
Another solution would be to set the standard to "in this Wiki we use Default Key Binds" since most articles already use 'Right-Click'... as Felinoel pointed out
