Best way to trigger redpower machines?

Redpower Machines Timer

Best Answer Celestial Oblivion , 22 April 2013 - 03:28 AM

After some research, I think relays will work perfectly in this situation.

So I've been replacing my pipe network with Redpower2 tubes, so I can use restriction tubes to handle inventory overload situations. However, I have to ask, is a timer really the only way to get the redpower machines to constantly output? It's getting kind of expensive to have to put them everywhere.

You can use redstone tubes to send the current of a single timer to all of your machines.

A sorting machine set to automatic pull mode will extract from an adjacent inventory without needing a timer, but it does require blutricity.

Hmm, if it can only pull out of an adjacent chest  don't think that's any more efficient, I would have to replace all my filters with sorting machines. I have used redstone tubes in some cases but for most the distance between machines would require more redstone than making a new timer. Has anyone messed with wireless redstone to know if there is anything in that mod that could help?

I'm not sure what exactly you're trying to set up here, so it's hard to give suggestions. My old system for sorting/automatic processing was something like this:

Everything comes into the system at an enderchest. A sorting machine pulls all of that out and puts it into pneumatics tubes, coloring certain items which will be processed, and giving everything else a default color (white). Items to be processed (ores, sticky resin, etc) get sent to the appropriate hoppers, and the processed items get pulled out of the machines via buildcraft pipes and sent back to the start of the sorting system, or into the pneumatic tubes through a buffer and a filter which is only used to color them white. Anything that doesn't get processed finds either the appropriate barrel, or there's a chest right on top of a filter, used to select which items go into that chest. Off in a corner, there's a restriction tube connected between the network and a diamond chest, for any overflow. Not a single timer in sight, just some blutricity needed for the sorting machine.

Now, though, I'm mostly just using Applied Energistics. No need to sort anything, just throw it all into the ME network onto storage cells.

I really need to start working with AE since you've mentioned that...

It's not a sorting system, its just transporting resources for processing. I.e. sending wheat from my wheat farm to my moisturizer for turning into mulch, sending the mulch to make biomass/humus, sending the humus to my tree farm etc. Buildcraft pipes would be fine for these simple chains except it has no good way to deal with overflow, hence I'm switching to redpower so I can have an emergency barrel at the end to catch that.

Oh, you were just looking for a way to put items into the tube system for transport? I was under the impression you needed to process them hence pulling them from machines via filters triggered by redstone currents.

I was, but basically I can use emerald transport pipe/redstone engine/lever to put items into a relay instead of using a filter. As I have an extreme shortage of redstone I think that is slightly cheaper and simpler.

For the redstone problem, if you can find a witch and get a 1 kill witch soul shard, then you can anvil it with a T5 soul shard of any other mob to get a tier 5 witch shard. Once you have that, you can make a farm to get infinite REDSTONE, glowstone, and gunpowder.

Interesting, I didn't know witches dropped redstone, but I don't know if it matters much. I've never seen a witch EVER, either in Vanilla minecraft or mods. Still, I'll keep it in mind, I have two more soul shards currently not being used for anything.

I found a witch in an area with alot of flux. I think it was a high flux area in the nether. Witches drop Redstone, glowstone, gunpowder, sticks, glass bottles, spider eyes, and rarely health potions.

I've never naturally encountered a witch either. However, using some transformation powder on a Skeleton Druid in the Twilight Forest will get you a witch to kill.

Witches are usually found somewhere in a Swamp Biome, similar to finding Jungle and Desert Temples. There's usually one of these per biome.

Not true. Witch farms are much rarer then those due to the random-er spawning of land in swamps. There is a much higher chance it would be in a deep pool, causing it not to spawn if the water is too deep. There is a much lower chance of finding a witch hut, so the transformation powder idea seems the best.

Yeah, I've spent a lot of time in swamp biomes, heck I randomly got a swamp single biome mystcraft world. Still haven't found any. :-/

I've only wondered around a bit in twilight forest, are skeleton druids any more common?

They are in the little houses that are all around.

Hmm, I've seen the houses, but there have never been anything inside, save a spawner that seems inactive.
