I was wondering when we will see an update to the new ComputerCraft 1.52 so we can use the wired modem system

FTB can only update when all the mods are updated to the newest version. See this thread, there's some links somewhere there that I've previously posted that detail which mods are still not updated.

There isn't really an ETA on a new FTB pack, mainly because RedPower, maintained by Eloraam, hasn't updated or appeared as if it's going to update for quite a while. Eloraam's supposedly going to update it soon, but after a few tweets she sent out on her twitter (@TheRealEloraam) I don't believe there's been any news as to that. A few other mods (namely Extra Bees, WR-CBE (dependent on RedPower), IC2 and addons, XyCraft, and a few minor others) still haven't updated, but RedPower is the one main problem.

Is it totally taboo for someone else to simply get it to work with whatever minecraft version FTB is going to, then readd the official red power version when it becomes available?

Though even if they did, I'd be pretty mad if I lost all my Extra bees or Xycraft stuff.

It's probably not taboo, but it'd be nigh impossible. You'd have to manually assign dang near all of the item/block IDs, as FTB uses an ID map which (to my knowledge) is completely different from all of the default ID maps from all of the mods that it uses. It would theoretically be possible to make your own FTB pack right now, but it would take a long, long time to make by hand, featuring lots of manual configuration file editing. Even if you copied stuff over, you'd have to make sure it all works with whatever additions/changes the new versions add. Especially with Twilight Forest and probably others, there are a fair few new things.

You'd also lose any and all items/blocks/other stuffs from the mods that are presently not updated to 1.5.x. As all of my crafting tables are Project Tables, I use a fair amount of Red Alloy stuffs and Extra Bees makes up a good 50% of my Apiarist's Chest, this is certainly not something I'd want to do, although I'd be fine with losing Xycraft. Never done anything with it, not planning on it.

If you distributed the pack to people other than yourself, there are also intellectual property issues, which can delve into the territory of potentially breaking the law or, at the very least, coming quite close. One of the main reasons that FTB is lauded as being much better than Technic/Tekkit is that the authors of Technic/Tekkit did not consult the mod owners (at least, this is commonly accepted as true) before including their mods in the packs that they were making, whereas FTB acquired approval prior to distributing anything.
