I'm playing FTB ultimate 1.1.2 on a server and i noticed some of the machines i found on the wiki are not in the game at all, too many items coulds find them either, namely the laser drill and auto-anvil, along with some other MFR items. i crosschecked the version of the mod with the pack and wiki and tried the recommended version as well.

 

why are these blocks not included and how do i get them?

The Laser Drill, Auto-Anvil and several other MFR machines such as the Auto-Brewer, the Auto-Disenchanter and many others are only available in versions of MFR for 1.5.2. You can use them by playing on the Unleashed, Unhinged, 152wgt or 152ngt packs. There is no version of MFR for MC 1.4.7 that allows you to use these machines, as far as I know.

 

BTW, the mod that allows you to search for an item's recipe in game is called Not Enough Items (sometimes denoted as NEI) which was inspired at least in part by Too Many Items (TMI); however, they are two very different mods.

is there anywhere i can get updates on when the modpacks update minecraft versions?

All the information you need can be found right here. BTW: the packs that use Minecraft 1.5.2 are currently private packs (they aren't automatically added to the launcher and require a code to access; however, the codes are public knowledge.) You must enter the private pack code on the launcher to be able to use them by clicking Private Packs, inputting the pack code and clicking Add. For Unhinged and Unleashed, codes are FTBUnhinged and FTBUnleashed respectively; the 1.5.2 beta packs are 152wgt (for the GregTech version) and 152ngt (for the DartCraft version); Direwolf20's 1.5.2 pack is Direwolf20_1_5.

 

BTW, to make a long story short, all FTB packs are currently "locked" except for Unhinged, Unleashed and Direwolf20 1.5, so there won't be any more updates to any packs except those, at least not in the foreseeable future.
