I've seen this on a couple servers I've been on, and it's started happening on my own server as well.

What happens is, it'll start raining, and everyone hates the rain, so someone will use some sort of rain stopper (e.g. Reliquary's Sand Shot, Forestry's Rainmaker + Dissipation Charge, Thaumic Tinkerer's Crystal of Climate Sunlight). Then literally 1 minute later it will start raining again.

I've seen it rain 10 times in one day. We've found that sleeping helps relieve the rain for a bit.

Does anybody know anything about this?

I've ruled out the following:

* Somebody using Thaumcraft. This started happening on our server long before anybody got into thaumcraft.

* Bees. Again, started happening long before anybody got into bees.

* Rainmaker. I was the first one to build a rainmaker on the server, and it was to stop the frequent rain.

* Griefing/excessive trolling/dickery. This happens when I'm the only one online, and it's a private server where everyone complains about the rain, so nobody would intentionally make it rain to the point of excess like this. If anything, I'm probably the biggest troll on the server.

I notice this happening when I use the Rainmaker to clear rain - it clears the rain for a while, and then it seems to draw the rain back. Though, in my case, the pause lasts a bit longer than a minute...

Maybe that's an intentional feature of the Rainmaker, But that wouldn't explain why all other methods behave exactly the same...

I actually noticed this happening on a VANILLA server, now that I think about it.

My friend set up command blocks so that when a player stepped on a pressure plate, it'd set time to 0, clear the weather, and make an announcement in chat.

Whenever someone did this to clear the rain, it'd only clear for a few minutes and then the rain would come back. That server nearly ALWAYS had a thunderstorm going thanks to that...

I've encountered (and seen in some Direwolf20 videos) rain that's client-side only, caused by some de-sync from stopping the rain on a server. Is that possibly the case here? Next time you clear rain and it comes right back, try re-logging to see if that's the case.

Trolling is still a possibility, if someone set up a Rainmaker in a chunkloaded area, with automation to start the rain if it's not raining. Hey, that's a fun little prank idea... *evil laugh*
