The return of Yellowstone means the return of Beth Dutton, Rip Wheeler and the love story that has captivated audiences.

From the beginning of the Paramount Network drama, one of the things that's made the show a hit is Beth and Rip's combustible chemistry -- as well as the many ups and downs they've faced. The rest of Yellowstone Season 5 isn't going to make things any easier on them, but that might be just the way they like it.

In an interview ahead of the second half of Season 5, actors Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser spoke with CBR about their characters and the love between Beth and Rip. They discussed what Beth and Rip's happy ending might look like -- or if Rip might finally reach his breaking point with Beth and the Duttons in these new episodes of Yellowstone. Plus, what does Reilly think of Beth Dutton becoming a pop culture icon?

CBR: Yellowstone fans have particularly embraced Beth Dutton; she's easily the breakout character on the show, even though she's done some pretty ruthless things. Kelly, what does it mean to you to see how massively popular Beth has become?

She's had Rip's love and the family has had his loyalty through every challenge. The flashbacks in Season 5 reiterated that the Duttons are the only family he has. But given all the drama surrounding the family, is there any breaking point at which Rip would walk away?

Cole Hauser: I talked to Taylor [Sheridan] a little bit early on in the process of putting this character together, [and] when everything is hitting the fan and everything [has] gone crazy, his heart rate goes down. It's being by himself in his own peace that I think he struggles with at times. And that's why this character is so lucky to have Beth in his life, is that there's a real darkness to him, and he needs that.

But when things are at its worst, his heart rate actually drops. I've talked to Taylor about that. He loved that idea, and he's written for it over the years. But could it happen this year? Maybe. There's some pretty intense moments that, he's there. But I don't know if he fully goes that way.

With these being the final episodes of Yellowstone Season 5, everyone is looking toward the future, including Beth and Rip. What would a happy ending look like for them when the dust settles? Because they're not conventional characters, and they don't have a conventional relationship, either.
