I'm smoothing out a tunnel near my hollow hills base, when all of a sudden (on my mini map) I see a HUGE blob of those little purple guys. They're one of my favorite mobs to fight, so I decide to dig around a bit and try to find them. Once I do, I see this....Are that many supposed to spawn at once? xD

Wow. That is a large mob of.. mobs. The most I've seen at any one time was around six. Maybe there were multiple spawners in a close proximity?

This angry mob reminds me of the Kaisar Chiefs 
I can't say I've eer seen so many in a pack, do they do tend to pile up on you.

I'm not 100% sure about their spawning patterns, but I do know that Kobolds (the name of these guys) tend to spawn in large packs and gang up on the player, although they can't often do much damage due to their tendency to run away every time one of their number dies.
