In a nutshell, I've been using a lot of ink sacs lately, and slaughtering a half dozen squids in a lake outside my house every day is getting a little repetitive. So I'm wondering what might be some good options for an automated squid farm? I'd rather not use Soul Shards since I haven't found a stronghold to go to the end yet.

The first things that come to mind, don't know which apply to your modpack/tech level:

MFR - If you can catch a squid in a safari net, you should be able to set up an autospawner.

EE3 - Transmute other dyes into ink sacs.

IC2 - There should be a UU-matter recipe, I think.

Thaumic Tinkerer - If the transmutator is enabled in the config, I believe it could work here? (haven't had the chance to play with this one yet)

Vanilla - I recently watched a video for a vanilla squid farm, using a large cube of water suspended by signs.

Isn't UU-matter a bit expensive for some ink?

Though your best bet me be EE3, at least it is the cheapest lol

Hmm, of those MFR might be the best solution for me, though it seems I need to make an essence farm first to keep it running.

EE3 might be the simplest but I really need to generate a decent supply of the stuff. I don't see how picking flowers my bees generate and turning those into ink sacs is any less work that manually finding and killing squids.

Also I guess before I discount Soul Shards completely, does any mod have a good way for finding a stronghold or otherwise acquiring endstone? I guess I might get lucky and find the mystcraft page but that hasn't happened yet.

If you've got MFR, the Rancher's pretty nice.

Trap a squid in a tank, point rancher at it, give rancher power, rancher "milks" ink sacs from squids. Hook it up to some pipes to pull the ink sacs out (that's what I did).

May want to have it hooked to a lever for on/off, that poor squid is going to give you so many ink sacs.
