I used to use Filters, however they stopped extracting items from my IC2 machines. I then tried the retriever, however it required a constant timer in order for it to extract items and even then, only extracted one item at a time, causing lots of lag. So then I attempted to use Factorization Routers, these initially had much success. Until after a while, they simply stopped working, and I think they cause extreme RAM usage.

So my question is, what methods do you use, or can think of, that can efficiently extract items out of IC2 and Gregtech machines, without failing, and without causing large amounts of lag?

And, if you use red pipes, you can hook up electrical engines tot he pipes to take the items out.

I would prefer to keep using my Pneumatic Tubes, anything that would be compatible with them?

tried using a transposer? they only pull out one item at a time but, also make sure you connect them to the right face.

Those failed at the same time the Filters stopped working.

I just run all of mine off of BC2 pipes and gates. I only ever use pneumatic pipes if I have no other choice and it's worked fine for me. I just get a few engines depending on the speed stuff's coming in and use either gold pipes for short distances, or item tesseracts for longer distances or pipe steups that would cause a problem (clashing with other pipes/getting in the way.)

pneumatic pipes work great with barrels, otherwise I use BC2 pipes.
