I renamed Gears to Gear, and, as usual, followed the "What links here" to update any last references. It listed pretty much every BC page, as expected, because BC-Nav's template pasted in the link. So I updated Template:BC-nav, and confirmed that some of the BC pages now properly link to Gear instead of Gears. However, after seeing "What links here", it's still saying they all point to Gears.

I thought it might be a cache thing, so I went to nocache version, and the issue was still there.

Anywho, just dropping this here in case we want to get a second pair of eyes on it to make sure it all carries over correctly. Let me know if I did anything wrong or missed something.

Says they point to Gears for me too. Hm. Maybe leave an hour or so?

The wiki caches a lot of stuff, including these lists. Try logging in on http://nocache.ftbwi...ecial:UserLogin, then navigating to the WhatLinksHere page. You will have to log in there to be allowed use the no-cached version, otherwise it will redirect you to the cached one.

But even then you may have to wait. MediaWiki has a built-in system to update the lists over time, so even the no-cached version will only be up to date after some time.

Weird, does the nav link to Gear somewhere other than what you changed?

It's been over 24 hours now and it's still not updating.

@felinoel: That was my thought as well, but I searched the page (Ctrl+F in the Edit) and only saw the 1, which I had already updated. Unless there's some other template or something linking it, but even then, that doesn't explain why What Links to "Gear" says that everything still only points to "Gears".

I'm going to try editing the template again, because I've seen some templates will use their second-to-latest version sometimes (presumably cache).

Edit: Nope. No luck.

If you go to one of the pages that it claims links to "Gears", such as http://ftbwiki.org/Land_Mark and do a "View Source", and then search for "Gears" on the page. If anything actually linked to Gears, you would see <a href="Gears/" title="Gears">

But you don't. You only see "Gear/", so What Links Here is definitely lying.

I've seen this in other wikis. Sometimes, updating a template won't update WhatLinksHere for pages the template is used on until those pages are individually changed in some way. You'll see that "Stone Gear" shows up properly, as it's been edited since the change. I'm not aware of any workarounds (purge does not fix the problem), but I wouldn't consider it a big enough problem to warrant spamming edits to all the affected pages just to fix it.

A void/null edit on a page will update the list entry for that one page... but that's obviously not very efficient.

Not at all what? Not efficient? Obviously. Doesn't help? Of course it does.

I was just agreeing.

This definitely seems like the case, one can confirm this by testing it, seeing what article comes up first and then null editing and then checking to see if it comes up again.

Or just wait a month until each page has been edited once.

You can also just purge the cache for that page... by appending "?action=purge" to the link.

nope, that does not work. Tried that as well, and I believe someone else already mentioned it.
