There are few new ways of mining in this modpack and I generally use a mining turtle but I'm curious as to what it is other people use because I am afraid of missing out on the best methods. I initially selected the mining turtle because it's fairly cheap and easy to use.

Turtles are really good because of how versatile they are. Sure there's strip mines and excavating. But I can tell it to avoid certain ores so I can silk touch them instead (more diamonds and iridium for me.)

Quarries are normally the fastest as if you hook a couple redstone energy cells to it, It can do around a line a second on the default setting and it doesn't have to stop unlike the turtle. All the stuff can just be pumped straight into your processing factory.

If you really want to try it, go for tunnel bore strip mining. They're mainly used for setting up rails but it's fun to just watch the monsters go.

Of course there is the regular mining tactic too. With IC2 and GregTech though, you can mine at lightning speeds. (try mining with a vajra while super sprinting with quantum legs/boosted flying with the gravichest.)

Tunnel bores are really good on servers if you have alot of time. In a few days at diamond level they will mine alot of it and expose alot more.

Quarries are good for quick bulk mining, and turtles are good before you can afford quarries. Turtles are good for many other thinks too, like auto exp farms.

Fillers used to be awesome, but are not very good anymore for mining.

I prefer Steve's Carts 2 way: a cart with hardened drill, railer, bridge builder, extracting chests, liquid sensors, chunk loader, height control and an engine is what I use for making tunnels.
It can extract mined items/get rails/get fuel automatically in a very convenient way.

If you are thinking about the BC Quarry, than I would suggest a RP2 Frame Quarry instead. They are quite a bit more complex to build with all the frame motors and stuff, but once you get it working, it is generally better than a BC Quarry. They tend to mine faster than BC Quarrys, mining about 1-2 levels per second. They are also considered cheaper, since they don't require diamonds to build, and they run on Blutricity, which is cheap and solar.

I used to swear by a filler with the patern slots filled with glass, Though it's nearlly impossible to collect everything it tears up on larger bits. But now I tend to use tunnel bores around level 18 and dig the holes down to bedrock in their wake. This helps you get to later stages in IC2 because you need so much lapis for the high-end energy storage items, lapis being most prelevent in layers 14-16. The only issue I've found with this is that the DW20 pack has IC2 copper and tin disabled by default so you'll be starved for the stuff unless you reenable it and head for new chunks.

Thermal Expansion overrides every other copper and tin generation. Which really sucks because now you'll only find copper around layers 40+. Because I hoard everything like crazy, copper has been the only ore I've continuously ran out of. Even with the massive iron consumption I've never ran out of it. Heck, I always seem to have so much iron I need barrels just to store the stuff.

I use this way too. I use train crafts steel to get tracks though. And just make  charcoal farm. With a tree farm and a coke furnace.

Everyone tends to forget about the lonely little miner block. I'll set up a small package of miner/pump/MFE with lappack or solars. It's not a fast system, but it pulls everything out of the ground and fills its 1x1 hole up if you put in cobble. very simple and cheap method that doesn't scar the landscape. Bonus points if you put it on frames for faster relocation.

Direwolf20 made a mining monster with those and frames....better then a quarry lol XP

Direwolf20 used the BC Mining Well, not the IC2Miner. I copied his design, and it is really excellent at getting a ton of items when left running on a server.
