I've been filling out the wiki pages for the Chisel mod blocks, however I could do with some help.

 

Specifically, I could do with a template for the Chisel mod where you can display the alternate aesthetic variants of each block. It doesn't need to be a replication of the Chisel's GUI, I'd just like a way to show the variants possible with Chisel.

 

It could also be put on the pages for the vanilla blocks for which Chisel is also compatible.

Hey! First of all, thanks for contributing. 

 

As I haven't played with Chisel at all, I might have a dumb question:

 

Do you just need an animated image showing different variants of a block, like this, to be used in various Grid templates? 

Or do you need something like the Grid template itself? 

 

I will be able to check the mod out later today, and do whatever is necessary.

Both methods have their merits. The animated image could work for a bottom-of-page example demonstrating the aesthetic variants, however some of them have textural properties that might not be visible in an animated image like that.

 

Some of the variants have textures that tile (i.e. the texture joins for adjacent blocks of the same variant), some have textures that tile but only in certain directions (stacked ones tile, adjacent ones don't), while others don't tile in any direction, and having descriptions that demonstrate how each variant tiles (or doesn't tile) would probably help.

 

I'm thinking a table for each Chisel block, with the top row being pictures of the variants, the next being their official description in-game (it's the grey text on mouse-over) and a third row being a basic description of how the textures tile for the variant.

A table sounds good, but you could of course still add the animated image to the item infobox. To create those, simply pass a list of file names separated by semicolons to the image parameter of the infobox. For example:

This does seem like a good idea.

Ha, I've actually been considering how we could go about documenting this mod myself and I have been more in favor of the animated image myself.

This is that mod I recommended for Absolute Zero, ost.

Well, the Resonant Rise wiki already has a Chisel section all fleshed out; is there any way we can use their images for this wiki?

 

In the meantime, I've just added the template to each of the Chisel-introduced block pages I've made so-far. On most of them, it's completely blank aside from the input field, however I have added duplicate ones to the Limestone and Marble pages showing the instances where it can convert those blocks to other mod versions (RedPower 2's Marble, Emasher Resource's Limestone), as well as mentioning that it might not be applicable in every modpack. And before you ask, yes it can do that; at least, in the Yogscast Complete Pack it can.

 

Also, slight typo on the page you linked. The chisel tool hyperlink links to the page for Chisel (Chiself).
