I'm planning on putting up a house server for Minecraft/FTB, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the best setup.  I'm planning on using Ubuntu server, and I want to have a minimum base system needed to run Java and the server software.

 

So, what packages do I absolutely need, which ones are useful but not required, and which ones can I ignore during server installation?

What server are you going to run? The system requirements vary, depending on which modpack you use and how many players you expect to have on there.
