Massive Freeze in NEI crafting interface when pressing "U"

Freeze lag

Best Answer timrem , 29 June 2013 - 03:55 AM

What kind of computer are you using? Even on a decently powerful desktop, I get a bit of a pause bringing up Uses, so if you're on older hardware, that could be the issue.

Hey guys,

I just got FTB today, everything works fine, exept when i try to get the Usage of any block in the NEI interface.
In the moment i press u (or right-click), Minecraft freezes, and after about 20 seconds of lag i get shown the usage interface.

Hope you guys could give me some advice how to fix this :)

Thanks,

Wurschti

Timrem is correct, there is usually a slight pause when finding the uses for an item, it may have something to do with the way the mod loads the uses...

Are you at all running out of RAM during play?  When the mod uses the HD to perform actions it becomes a lot slower.

The only fix for this is to get a better computer, upgrade your current one, or run a program to identify any optimizations that can be applied, I would recommend Advanced System Care.

Yeah, the uses feature takes a bit of time, I haven't been able to get around that either.

Thanks for your fast answers,

Im running Windows 7 on an Intel E2180 @ 2.00 GHz.
I got 6 GB RAM , as far as i know 1 GB is totally assigned to Minecraft FTB. Graphics are Nvidia GForce 9600 GT.
My HDD has 120 GB left.

edit: i never ran out of memory playing minecraft so far.

I'm running Windows 7 'I5' Quad core @ 2.80GHz.

4GB RAM assigned to FTB.

I still get a notable pause (1-3 seconds).

Even I who run on an i7 3770k CPU overclocked to 4.2GHz, 16GB 1600MHz RAM, 240GB SSD in RAID0 and a GTX660Ti GPU get noticeable lag when bringing up the uses on items, some more than others. The worst ones freezes up NEI for 5-6 sec.

It really should just cache the data rather than running through a search every time you press 'u'. Recipes don't change during the game so there's no reason not to cache a reverse recipe database on load.

I don't believe they do cache it though. :/

Guys, i just turned up my RAM usage and got the freezes down to the , seemingly casual 3-5 seconds.

Thanks for your feedback and support.

Is this to be marked solved now?

how do you turn up the RAM usage? i have windows 8, I have an AMD A8-4500M with Radeon HD Graphics (i think its quad-core because device manager lists 4 identical ones but i have no clue), and under display adapters it has an AMD Radeon HD 7640G. the computer is an HP envy dv6.

I have no clue what most of those things are or which of them are relevant btw.

In the FTB Launcher, under Options, there's a slider to increase "RAM Maximum (MB)".

You'll need to get 64-bit Java.
